A late start, and a later finish!!
1 day late blog post.
After the 3am whisky session, I was a bit slow to get going this morning, the Kilchoman Machir Bay is pretty potent stuff. I was happy to open my bottle last night as we had such a good evening on the water, but we were both now suffering a little. It was a beautiful morning and we were heading around the Atlanterhavsvegan-The Atlantic Ocean Road.....or so we thought. We had our later than normal breakfast and had a lazy morning, I wasn't up to driving yet and there was no rush anyway. So we tidied the van and the boys wanted to play a little more at the park. I chatted to Bjorn and asked if he was going out today, and he said no, his wife didn't want to fish so they were having a day off......that was until he again, asked if I wanted to go out, lol. This would mean a change of plan for the day. The weather was nice, Joyce was happy to stay and the boys liked the place so, fishing was planned for 2pm to get a more favourable tide. We used the rest of the morning to get a washing done, were were running a bit low on clean clothes, and then chilled out. We had lunch and then I got my rucksack packed and got my rod ready also, a long rod is not ideal in a boat but it gave me the option to try a bit spinning if we were closer to the shore.

At 2pm I said my goodbyes and headed off with Bjorn onto the water in lovely sunshine. Callum and Logan were shouting goodbye at the top of the voices as we headed out, lol. We fished at various different locations and had much better success than last night. While we were heading out a huge sea eagle flew just a few meters above the boat, and then we saw one take a fish out the water, again not too far away. I got the telephoto lens on the camera as the eagles are common around here and of course none more showed up-typical!! We caught Ling, Cod, Haddock, Tusk, Saithe, Pollack, although decent sized none of them were the monsters we hoped to catch, there are seriously big fish in these areas. Again myself and Bjorn had great chat, he is very knowledgeable about Norway and Sweden having holidayed, fished, and hunted here for the last 18 years. He was a wealth of information asking if we'd been to this area or that and telling us where we should go also. Our trip is definitely too short!! The weather was fine but it looked quite threatening on the hills but it stayed dry for us the whole time we were out. As I said this area is very reminiscent of west coast Scotland and it reminded me of my many fishing adventures with Ian and Gordon over the years.
Unfortunately Bjorn's wife Ina is not confident speaking English so she wasn't really able to chat to Joyce and the boys much while we were out which was a pity. However the boys got a good play on the shore right in front of the vans and the lady's could sit and chill and read their books in the sunshine.

At 7pm we decided to call it a day and headed back in and of course there was a welcoming committee waiting on us the marina to see what we had landed. It took us to about 8pm to get the fish all gutted and filleted so it was a late tea for us. We organised to have a beer and a whisky again this evening after the boys were bedded and dinners all scoffed. By this time the heavens had opened and it was a real downpour and I thought maybe the beers wouldn't happen but Bjorn chapped thew van window at 10 and myself and Joyce went next door and squeezed in past the big Bloodhound Fina and the 4 of us sat around the table chatting and sampling more Kilchoman and Bjorn bottle of Glen Almond-he had bought it as it had a drawing of a salmon on the bottle, this man eats, sleeps and drinks for his fishing!! Ina managed to keep up with the chat ok, it was just a confidence thing. At 1am Joyce and Ina decided to call it a day, and that left myself and Bjorn up again until 3am....it was a gorgeous morning, darkness does not really happen up here this far north, sunset is not until about 11:20pm where we are just now. Another late finish and no blogging done again.
It strange how fate works sometimes, decisions are made which lead to very different outcomes. This has been a superb couple of days that wouldn't have happened had we gone to a different campsite, or even parked somewhere different in the one we chose. We met 2 lovely people, and a lovely big pooch and these memory's will stick with us and new friendships have been forged.

Glad your back on the blog buddy I was missing it and just been up at the auld yins to make sure they were keeping up to date, its funny how you always blame me for those late whisky nights and now poor Bjorn is getting the blame Mmm who is the real bad influence? lol
