Walking boots on at last.

We woke to a gorgeous morning, we have not been super early getting up but this far north it is light pretty late at night so there's no rush to go to bed and no rush to get up in the morning and getting the boys out their sleeping bags after staying up til 11pm takes a bit of time, lol.

We polished off the last of our Danish strawberry's for breakfast today and they were delicious.....probably the only strawberries to taste as good as Scottish ones....well actually not true...Ina had strawberries also that were just as good. We made up some sandwiches, packed a couple of light rucksacks and dug our boots out the locker....Joyce was questioning why it needed to be boots and not just trail shoes...well...I didn't know what was required and suggested boots would be the safest option, so boots it was.

We only have a rough map, but also an App the Bjorn had put me onto so we had enough to go on...and also the coloured tape around trees and paint splodges on rocks made navigation easy. Without these it would have been particularly difficult if not impossible. The path is quite faint and the forest, although not dense like a plantation forest would be very difficult to get through without knowing the way. It was however very beautiful....like some of the best bits of forest we have back home around the likes of Aviemore perhaps.

There are a multitude of plants and trees growing everywhere....I would say as far as the eye could see but at times that was not very far. Oak, Pines, Silver birch, Aspen, Poplars, Rowan, blaeberry and numerous other plant species that we don't know what they were. I guess this is what the Scottish Highlands looked like before all the trees were felled to make way for sheep. It was so nice and cool in the trees on what was a pretty hot day. The path was also steep, very rough, wet in places, rocky and rooty so I was happy I had insisted on boots for today. We found wild Blaeberrys, Raspberries and strawberries to eat today, there's lots of free food about here and Logan in particular is an expert at finding such things...he definitely won the blue face and tongue competition today.

I had taken the camera today with the big lens and that proved to have been a good move, I got photos of some interesting and new to us bird species and loads of butterflies, moths, dragon flies etc, so a good decision that was. I missed some shots of a pretty large bird of prey up through the trees, as my camera was in the wrong setting at the time...but these things happen. I am kicking myself for not bringing my new Collins European bird book as I am struggling to identify what I saw today.

Up and down, round corners, though wee clearings, past lovely lakes. This was a good walk. The boys were loving it too, they are interested in nature and that's a good thing as far as we are concerned. We were out four about 5 hours and it was nice to chill with a beer from Denmark in the hot sun when we got back, before I finally had to succumb to Callum harping on about the crazy golf. So we went and had a go at that, it was not easy as he found out....though Logan found it easier and won by a fair margin.

We had decided to have dinner in the restaurant which is attached to the campsite and it was pretty decent. We don't know much about traditional Swedish food...but my dumplings stuffed with mushrooms and covered in Lingen berries was pretty tasty. The boys have made palls in the campsite, so they race their wee model cars about, play football and tennis and can mostly amuse themselves while us parent relax for a bit which is great.

Beer, blog, whisky...Bed.....ZZZZ!!!!
