Too nice to leave.

The Frosta peninsula and the campsite at Asholmen was a really beautiful place. Tomorrows forecast is bad so we decided to stay put here for another day. We can do our driving when the weather is bad.
So, after breakfast and a little look at the campsites local walks board I had a plan. I checked out the start of a walk and all seemed fine...I knew the way.

So after explaining and selling it to the boys and Joyce we headed along the shore and found the start of the red markers up through steep hillside. We had chatted to a local lady at tbe end of the road who said all would be good. I had already done the first section up and back down and it was straightforward. The route was really nice, the path was small and not always easy to follow but between the path and the red spots we made upward progress for quite a while. I had no map (which I hate) but have an App on my phone which shows our location and that coupled with the markers made me happy.

But this route just kept on going. There was a mountain hut or cottage as the locals called jlit that was out target and at times it felt like we must be getting close but the app seemed to suggest we were still a long way off. The path was steep both up and down, very boggy, a bit confusing but also horse fly infested, all of whom seemed to fancy a bit of Joyce. So, her mood at the nature of the walk and the fact her blood was in demand was making her less than happy, ...which tends to rub off on the boys. When I could do with a bit moral support I was getting the opposite. So, I am trying to tell myself its a good idea to carry on and convince the boys all will be OK and also I have to tell Joyce this too. To be fair it was quite a bushwhack, Indiana Jones would have been quite at home here, ๐Ÿ˜†.

After almost 2 hours we finally made it to the hut, its a hut that belong to the local Norwegian Tourist tracking association and it was really beautiful. It was immaculately kept, the outside was in great condition and internally it had all you would need for a very comfortable overnight stay.

Soon after arriving, when we had just started tucking into our food we heard voices and an elderly couple arrived...followed by their 3 grandchildren and the patents too....so the wee hut suddenly became quite busy. It was really cool inside out the heat and also there were no nasty biting flies. We chatted for a while to the family who lived in Switzerland and were visiting their parents who lived locally,  and then bid our farewell, we needed get back down. Fortunately the way down was far easier than the way up and after just over an hour later we were all eating an ice cream at the campsite....Happy days. The walk was in the end deemed to have been alright by everyone๐Ÿคท.

The boys played for a good while at the campsite with friends they had made and eventually were called over for dinner. Its amazing how fast they can put food away when there are friends to okay with.

Playing lasted for a good while but they also really wanted to fish. So after a while the 3 fishing rods were back out and we all fished again, this time Callum being the lucky one. It wasn't the best fishing spot but it was definetly good for casting practice and Callum again caught a codling which was put back. After a while, they wanted to go back and play so they did, I fished on but caught not other fish until calling it a night and enjoying some beers.

Tomorrow the forecast is bad for most of mid Norway so it will be a driving day....it needs to be anyway!!  Oh.....and it's also someone's birthday.....
