Over to Sweden and a big drive north.

It was really tempting to stay put I'm Copenhagen, we had friends who were visiting there also on their own separate holiday but their agenda and ours didn't allow for a meeting sadly. We prefer to be out in the countryside rather than in a big city and Copenhagen can wait for us. So, we got the van all sorted, had showered in the excellent marina facilities and paid a visit to the supermarket to stock up on beers and a few other bits before crossing to Sweden where things are more expensive.

After this we were back on the motorway and heading over the spectacular (and expensive) Oresund Bridge....it is 16km long. Heading from west to east it starts off as a tunnel....pops out onto a man made island and then rises onto a huge bridge. Its an impressive feat of engineering but one that looks far more spectacular in aerial photographs than it does whilst actually crossing it. We now curled around Malmo and headed north towards Gothenburg not exactly knowing when or where we would stop for the night. But we did know once we were on it that this was a boring bit of road....mile after mile of bog standard fairly flat countryside with not a huge amount to see....apart from views out to the sea from time to time. I am probably being unfair here and am pretty sure there are some interesting places if we had got off the motorway and had a nose around. We did see on the road for some reason loads of old American cars which seem to be very popular here, these kept the boys amused as we don't see many at home.

We followed the E20 all the way up to Gothenburg without incident, it was busy as there were roadworks here but no issues. The minor delay gave us plenty time to see the Liseberg amusement park which looks to have brilliant rides, but we have had our fill of rollercoasters for the time being and we pressed on up the road. Now we were on the E45 (Europaveig) and things start to get better here.

First of all it follows the Gota Alv a very large river and canal system which drains Lake Vanern....large vessels can navigate this system and indeed there was a big tanker or some kind of vessel working its way inland as we passed by. The Gota canal system carries on east from lake Vanern to lake Vattern then all the way through to the Baltic Sea just south of Stockholm.

The scenery was now improving, more hilly and forested terrain with lots of big fences to keep large animals off the road, we havent seen any moose but have been warned to keep our eyes open for them especially if driving here in the dusk or at night. We checked Park4nignt and after a first failed attempt at an already full area we have made it to a cracking campsite at a little place called Ragnerud, near Hogsater. The Ragnerud and Kroppefjall nature reserve are within walking distance here and it looks like a fine place to spend a couple of days. We have driven nearly 270 miles today so there will be no driving tomorrow.

We have now eaten the last of our foods that were at risk with our dodgy fridge, everything in the freezer is still frozen solid and my beers are plenty cold enough, so on gas...all is good. The boys and I had a wander around beyond the campsite exploring a little and had a good wee game of tennis as there's lots of room. They have energy to burn off and we will stay here and explore tomorrow.
