Oje to Ostersund.

It was a fine morning and although Oje was a nice wee place it was time to move on north. We got the van all tidied up and went across the road to the other campsite to empty loo as there was no chemical waste at the site we were at. Not a problem.

So we soon got on the E45 north again, heading for erm...somewhere.... We haven't been very good this trip at hatching a definite plan...even just for a day and I still had a hankering to try and get up to Bodo to see Dag and Eirin....but it's still a long way to go, but the E45 is a very good road.

What I hadn't realised is that it is actually the same road we had been on in Germany and in Denmark. The Europaveg 45 runs all the way from Gela in Sicily to Alta in Norway a distance of 3225miles...it is the longest north to south road in Europe. Some east to west roads are longer (wiki). The best thing about it in Sweden at least is that it's almost deserted, or at least has been on our route north. Yes, it gets a bit busier around major towns but we have had no hold ups on it at all, all the way up from Gotenburg. It is on the whole nice and wide and a good surface. It continually passes through trees and marsh areas, often at around the 350 to 450m altitude level. There are beautiful lakes all along it's length, some very small and some huge!! There are also some very substantial rivers along it's length and also a railway follows it for a lot of the distance too.

I have enjoyed driving the E45.....its not the most spectacular road as there are no major mountains to look at, but on the whole it is scenic in its own way and it has allowed us speedy progress north. There are quite a lot of fixed speed cameras along it's length but they are well signposted and also marked on our Google maps app which us good. There are also many nice wee corners where you can get off the road for lunch or spend the night....parking up "wild" can be done pretty much any where in Sweden.

Bessie has averaged just under 32mpg on this trip so far....we just trundle along somewhere between 50 and 60 mp/h which keeps us in about the ballpark speed limit for the road which varies, usually at either 90 or 100km/h although there are slower sections at junctions and through villages. Callum and Logan have been perfect in the back, some of these are long driving days for them, today one of the longer amd there has been no fighting or arguing in the back, they tell us stories or jokes, tell us what they are seeing outside or read a book each. Or, they just chat away to themselves....except when they want food and then they make their presence know until we stop, lol.

We stopped for some supplies in Mora the only bigger town we passed through today, Mora is a nice looking place and probably worth a day or 2 spent there another time.

Tonight, we have stopped in Ostersund which is a big town, with some nice buildings. We are parked up in a motorhome parking area right in the middle of a very posh golf course on the island of Froson. It's 300 Sk for the night which is about £22, payable to the golf course and we can use their showers, their sauna and electricity for that cost..not bad at all, there will in the future also be waste emptying facilities also. And, if you are a golfer you get a reduced price game of golf if you are staying, someone in Scotland is needing to wise up to the way things are done over here, there are loads of golf courses which could surely benefit financially from this type of set up and also provide more places for motorhomers to go. The motorhome parking area is not yet completed but it's in a cracking elevated position looking over some of the golf course, and out over the huge lake. There are massive clouds developing and some serious rain is now falling. Time for beed soon...Zzzzz!!
