New teritory for us.

Wednesday 12th

Billund to Karstrup 165 miles.

The weather through the night had been a mix of perfectly quiet to torrential thundery rain battering off the van, but when we woke in the morning it was dry and reasonably bright. The host of the campsite/bnb knocked on our door at 8am as she had said she would and we were presented with 12 lovely warm, straight out the oven rolls in a nice little basket. That was breakfast sorted.....there is nothing like the smell and taste of freshly baked rolls or bread.

We had decided the night before that we were going to head east past Odense towards Malmo passing Copenhagen on route. We are not really city people and although Copenhagen has lots to offer tourists I would prefer to be in the country surrounded by nature.

It was just around lunchtime when we reached the Store Belt Crossing, am impressive bridge linking the islsnd of Fyn with the island of Haslev with their respective cities of Odense and Copenhagen. I took a wrong turn just before the crossing which landed us at a lovely sandy beach which was perfect for lunch....it was a fine spot to spend an hour and the campsite next to it would have been a fine place to stay for a day or two if we had time....but we dont unfortunately. The sun was beating down and it was lovely on the beach. After lunch we headed further east, we had checked out something to do in Copenhagen and the National Aquarium of Denmark seemed to be perfectly situated next to our route, there was also a large motorhome stopping place very close by so we decided we had driven enough and booked some tickets for 4pm at the aquarium wbich was open til 9pm. We easily found a place for Bessie and sorted out our parking ticket at the harbour master's office machine...a very easy task indeed.

Huge clouds had built and in the hour before we needed to head to the aquarium the heavens opened and the rain lashed straight down....if you were out in that not much was going to prevent a drenching....but it cleared before we needed to head along the walkway a mere 10 minutes at a slow pace.

This motorhome parking area would be perfect for anyone looking to explore Copenhagen....its right beside cycleways and also the train line into the centre...we will bear that in mind for future trips. The aquarium was good....it is ranked very highly in the lists of European aquariums but I am not convinced that its better than the ones we visited previously in North Denmark and also Alesund, but nonetheless we enjoyed our visit.

It was late by the time we left and we were soon back at the van and dinner was made....Joyce's mince and tatties were still good to eat even with our fridge woes...which to be honest may be behind us....it still does not work on hook up....but gas is doing an ok job combined with the ice bags which are still the originals we bought a few days earlier. Thank goodness for that πŸ˜….
