Heading south on Callums Birthday.

Tuesday 25th July.

191 miles. Frosta to Jutenheim.

It was a lovely morning at Frosta and we weren't in any rush to leave. It is Callums birthday today so he had a few cards and presents to open when he got up and we enjoyed that special time. Unfortunately for him it wasnt going to be the most fun birthday as we had to head south today, he would get his fun soon enough.

The boys had a fair old play on the swings with their new friend Lucas but eventually it was time to say goodbye, which as it is for me is difficult for them, they just make a new pall and then we take them away, but they understand its part of being on the road.

We headed back onto the E6 at Asen and then after an expensive shopping splurge at Malvik....my fault to be honest...loads of big packs of cured meats...beers...and a bottle of whisky at the vinmonopoly saw us fully stocked again for the next while. Back on the road we headed past Trondheim and south via Oppdal where again I had to stop for a snooze...it always happens after I have eaten lunch. 10 mimutes was all it took and we were soon through Donbas to Nord Sel, up over a steep pass west and onto the 15 road briefly near Vagamo, by now it had started to rain which was forecast.

Soon we headed south on the 51 road towards the Jutenheim exactly as we had done in 2019, we had our sights set on the Maurvanger campsite which sits in the middle of the park and has a pretty good restaurant attached. The rain was tipping it down and the boys having a carry on in the back made for a few miles of tricky driving, but we got that sorted....the boys....not the rain and things were again easier. We pulled into the campsite at 7:40pm....quite a long day but mostly.because we were not on the road early.

I went in to get us checked in which was no problem, amd enquired about the restaurant and we could get in there as long as we headed in straight after getting the van hooked up. It's not fair to expect Joyce to cook every night after a long drive, also it was Callums birthday so we were tonight eating out. Although the food is pretty decent it is pretty expensive, but I guess that the price to pay formeating out in a honey pot area in and already expensive country. To be honest we don't mind, but the welcome and service could have been better. It's probably because we arrived pretty late but the reception girl wasnt particularly enthusiastic in explaining the menu which was all in Norwegian, and she also.made no mention of the fabulous looking pizzas which we could have had...that annoyed me and almost drew a complaint. However, our meals were good and our bellies were filled and we headed back to the van and opened a cake and got the candles on it to celebrate Callums birthday.

We are off to bed earlier tonight as continued late nights do not make for earlyish starts which annoys me, and tomorrow we want to be in Hemsedal. Our time is running out in Norway and I want to take the boys to the aerial assault course that they enjoyed so much in 2019 and also try and climb another of the Hemsedal Topp 20 hills. So, we are going to be busy and need a bit of luck if that is all to happen. Fingers crossed!!!.
