Day no 1. The Irish Adventure begins.....


Unfortunately this day's Blog was deleted by mistake, it explained a lot about our decisions to go to Ireland. I may one day get round to rewriting it. For the time being here's a couple of photos.

The rain was off this morning when we woke and everything was soon drying out in the warm sunshine including then trampoline and slide, so by the time Callum and Logan had finished breakfast they were soon out having some more fun in the play area. This was good and it let Joyce and myself get the van tidied up. We used the facilities and it has to be said this is probably the best campsite we have been in this holiday, particularly in regard to the amenities. A huge investment has been made in the Moen campsite. The showering, toilet and washing facilities would not be out of place in a pretty decent hotel. A lovely big clean and fresh building with underfloor heating, beautifully tiled shower areas and full washing and drying facilities, if your camping in this valley then it has to be recommended. It cost 350NOK all in, so no more expensive than some other much less salubrious places we have had the fortune to find. It was 10:30 by the time we drove back into Hemsedal centre and ...

Captain Callum

Today was a much more calm weather day, that doesn't mean it was nice however, that's not a complaint, I don't complain about things I can't effect. It was dry when we woke up and had breakfast at Doonaha, but by the time the dishes were done and the boys had went outside to blow some bubbles, the rain was soon on-for the day. We headed east through Kikrush, another lovely looking town and onto Kilimer for the ferry across the Shannon estuary to Tarbert in County Kerry. After 10 minutes in the queue we boarded the ferry along with only a few other cars, it didn't make much money on this crossing. However, it worked out great for us. I took Callum out the van and up onto the side of the ferry where there are seats, we never intended to sit there, just to take a picture or two, but the captain on the other side spotted us and shouted over to me and said to bring the wee fella over and up stairs to the bridge. Norway is flat!

All over Scotland someone has been graffti'ng the back of road signs and rock faces saying "the earth is flat"...... Well, its actually true......we woke got on the go, turned one corner and discovered Norway is flat too. At least it is in the south west corner between Egursund and Stavanger. This area called Jaeren is a bit like the east coast of Scotland around Berwick and Dunbar, pretty flat and productive farmland of both arable and pastoral types. It was quite a contrast to the area we had passed through yesterday. The weather had improved and the sun was back out. We followed the 44 north westwards towards Stavanger, its a nice easy drive and follows the Jaeren National Scenic route. This bit of coastline has many miles of beaches, we went for a walk along the superb yellow sands at Ogna.
